German Shepherd Dog - Cherry

Cherry first came to see me when nine years old and had paresis (severe weakness) of both hind legs. She was extremely co-operative during acupuncture, showing no signs of fear or anxiety and willingly lying down for treatment, having greeted everyone first. A deficiency syndrome, bony Bi syndrome, was first diagnosed and initially she was treated with acupuncture needles in local points around her hind limbs: hips, stifles and lower back, as well as in master points which specifically help redress imbalance of energy in the body. The needles were warmed with the Chinese herb, Moxa, and each treatment lasted about 30 minutes.
Cherry first had a series of treatments at two week intervals, and as her body started to heal itself the intervals lengthened and eventually she was maintained on a treatment every 4 months. She regained the strength in both hind legs and had 5 more years of active life.

    Cat - Mrs Brown

Mrs Brown was a tabby cat with a 2 year history of breathing problems: asthmatic breathing with a wheeze, a gagging cough with a small amount of white foam, an increased thirst and lethargy. X-rays showed that she had masses in her lungs, and the conventional treatment of corticosteroids had made her worse. The Chinese diagnosis was of kidney Yang deficiency or lower burner syndrome, and acupuncture points including LU7, LU8 as well as ST36 the master point for toning Qi in the caudal body were selected to move the accumulated congested moisture.
Asthma signs reduced by some 70%, and interestingly, follow up X-rays showed the neoplastic masses in the chest had reduced dramatically in size. This doesn't mean that acupuncture cures cancer, but because cancer chronically weakens the immune system, the resultant blockage of energy results in tumours. Opening the channels reduces the energy imbalance and encourages healing.
